The fine ordered for Continental

The fine ordered for Continental

The fine ordered for Continental surpassed the euro175,000 ($231,000) fine sought by a state prosecutor, who had requested 18-month suspended prison sentences for Taylor and his supervisor.

The prosecution also had requested a two-year suspended sentence for Henri Perrier, former head of the Concorde program at former plane maker Aerospatiale. It argued for the acquittal of Aerospatiale engineer Jacques Herubel and Claude Frantzen, former chief of France's civil aviation authority.

Though both Aerospatiale employees were cleared of manslaughter charges, the court ruled that European defense giant and Airbus parent company EADS, which later absorbed Aerospatiale, did bear some civil responsibility, which is why the French branch of the company was ordered to pay a fraction of the damages - euro56,595 ($75,000).

Continental is now part of Chicago-based United Continental Holdings Inc., which was formed in October as the holding company owner of United and Continental Airlines Inc., which will eventually be combined into a single airline.

In France, unlike in many other countries, plane crashes routinely lead to trials to assign criminal responsibility.

The Alexandria, Virginia-based, Flight Safety Foundation argues that such trials are dangerous because they discourage aviation officials from sharing information freely out of fear that what they say could one day be used to prosecute them.

"This case was a terrible tragedy for the victims and their loved ones and the Concorde, but it is a senseless and unwise abuse of prosecutorial discretion," said Kenneth P. Quinn, a partner with Pillsbury law firm in Washington D.C., and the Flight Safety Foundation's general counsel.

In France, it is common for plane crash cases to drag on for years.

Last year, France's highest court finally confirmed the acquittal of all those originally accused of responsibility in an Air Inter crash that killed 87 people in 1992 - 17 years earlier.

Teen walks in shoes of Onslow County's homeless

Teen walks in shoes of Onslow County's homeless

One local teen is using his school project to walk in the shoes of Onslow County’s homeless citizens.hop for the jordan 6 rings iD Men's Shoe at the official Nike Store.

Leon Janusz, an 18-year-old senior at Swansboro High school, spent hours interviewing homeless individuals in the area and volunteering to help at the local homeless shelter and soup kitchen. He also spent two hours panhandling not far from his Hubert home and donated the $6 that he received to Onslow Community Outreach. Leon said it was a humbling and startling experience.

“I wanted to put myself in their shoes so I went out and asked police officers if it was OK,” Leon said. “I got made fun of and poked at while I was out there, and I finally understood a lot more. You won’t understand somebody until you are where they are.”

Leon said that although he could have done his senior project on a favorite hobby or sport,It works best with basics such as wholesale jeans or on the less visible parts of more complex pieces. he felt that his school and community needed to be informed on the issue of homelessness in the area. His mission was to focus on something that he feels many people often take for granted and also learn more about the issue in the process.

“I wanted to show others that there’s more to life than just skateboarding and surfing and that there’s actually people out there with real problems,” Leon said. “You can’t judge a book by its cover and they don’t really know the real person at all. I chose it to shed some light on (homelessness) and learn more about it, so I’m not trying to judge a book by its cover too.”

Leon’s English teacher Jolanda Sandy said that she was both impressed and inspired by his decision to tackle such a serious issue.

“Students pick things like skateboarding, and that's great, but to see someone take a topic like this is definitely great to watch,” Sandy said. “I’m really excited to see what that would be like. He's got a lot of great ideas as far as working at the soup kitchen and he’s really getting involved.”

Leon’s mother, Sandra Tonkens, felt especially proud of her son’s project, but she wasn’t surprised by his selfless efforts to bring attention to the needs of others.

“He always thinks about other people before he thinks about himself and wondering what and how he can do for someone else,” she said.

As a single mother of three boys, Tonkens said she struggled over the past several years. After settling in the area last year,This Foamposite Manolo blahnik features a Black Metallic mudguard that gives the sneaker a very interesting look. Tonkens wanted a new life and new opportunities for her children.

“We moved here last July from Florida,” Tonkens said. “We took whatever we could and put in the truck to leave a domestic violence situation and get a better life and start over.”

Tonkens said Leon knew what it was like to move from place to place for stability and at one point he gave up on school but decided to go back again and work hard to succeed.

“He’s definitely made me proud,” Tonkens said. “I know we don’t have much but I try to instill in him that it’s not what you have, buy cheap and popular ed hardy shoes right now and get free shipping! top quality and low price. it’s who you have.”

Leon asked Renee Abrams, store manager of the NC Onslow Outreach and Thrift Store in Hubert, to become his mentor for the project.

“I was honored when he asked me to be his mentor; and I think it’s a bold move to make the public aware, especially our younger generation,” Abrams said. “We just want to raise their awareness of what’s going on around here and encourage people to support local food pantries and homeless shelters.”

One statistic that Leon learned from Abrams was that, according to the Onslow County Schools, more than 900 students were considered displaced or homeless in the county. He realized that those who are experiencing homelessness may be sitting right next to him in class or passing him in the halls every day.

“I learned that there’s a lot of kids in schools that are homeless. They could be the most popular kids in school and you wouldn’t know it,” Leon said. “If someone found out that they were homeless,The actress has a huge collection of Christian Louboutin heels. they might be persecuted; and the same thing happens in the adult world.”

Tonkens said that she is pleased that Leon wants to teach others as well as his two younger brothers about the importance of getting to know people for who they are instead of what they have.

“It’s not taboo and it’s not a sin but it’s real, especially because of the economy,” Tonkens said. “He was really just trying to blow the top off of it. It’s real and it could be you or anybody tomorrow.”

After graduation, Leon plans to join the Navy and attend culinary school. For now, he’s focusing on excelling in school and continuing to volunteer for Christmas Cheer and other programs that help the community and serve the under privileged.

“Some of the most lively, awesome people you could ever meet are homeless,” Leon said. “They can show their real personalities and they don’t have to try to impress anybody.

“What you need to survive anywhere is to just be yourself.”

Tip on shooting threat puts high school on alert

Tip on shooting threat puts high school on alert

The Northern Valley Regional High School at Demarest was put on alert after receiving a tip that a school shooting might occur during the Nov. 8 to 12 school week.

Demarest Police Chief James Powderley said ed hardy hats police had received an e-mail through the WeTip system, which allows citizens to place anonymous tips concerning school safety throughout the district, at around 2:30 p.m. on Monday. He said the tip was particularly credible because the informant was able to answer a series of verification questions.

The person giving the tip spoke of having overheard four Asian males in the school's east corridor by the North Gym talking about a shooting taking place during the week. The tip suggested that other students had also heard the conversation. While there is also a police presence at the Old Tappan campus, Demarest is under tighter security, as the tip was addressed to that school, Superintendent Jan Furman said.

Powderley said the authorities were looking at all the information and that security at the school had been bolstered, with metal detectors that have been brought in by the Demarest, Dumont and Bergen County Police being used at the entrances to the school, and an X-ray machine brought in by the Bergen County Sheriff's Department.

Anyone trying to enter the building will have to go through the security system. Additionally, a K-9 unit searched both the Demarest and Old Tappan women handbags schools after the tip was received.

A recorded phone message was sent to parents by Principal Bruce Sabatini informing them of the situation. The school was made a "closed campus," Powderley said, meaning students are unable to leave the building until final dismissal, and there is an increased police presence on the campus, with support from the county police and the sheriff's department through the week.

The chief encouraged anyone with information to come forward to the Demarest Police or through the WeTip system and added that they have physical descriptions of the four males who were said to have been discussing the possible shooting. He Led lamp added, "We feel it is safe to come to school," saying if the police had felt it unsafe, they would have closed the school.

"We're grateful to the law enforcement officials for their quick response and support," Furman said, adding the regional district was also thankful for the understanding of the Demarest and Old Tappan town councils. "We're glad everyone is safe and sound," she said, "We do know that the buildings are safe."

Demarest Mayor James Carroll spoke at the school on Tuesday morning. He said the authorities were taking every possible precaution. The four people who were overheard talking, he said, did not specify where or when the incident might take place. During Monday night's council meeting in Demarest, the governing body went into closed session to discuss the tip with the police chief.

Oneida falls in Class B football final

Oneida falls in Class B football final

Another upset – and a second Section III football title in three years – were within reach.

Oneida’s Indians, in fact, took an 8-7 lead over unbeaten and state-ranked No. 4 Cazenovia into the second half of Sunday night’s Class B final at the Carrier Dome.

That’s when the Lakers, and senior quarterback Jeff Hopsicker in particular, went to work.

They regained the lead with a nine-play,  replicas de relojes 65-yard drive in the third quarter; they ate up nearly eight minutes with a 15-play march; and Hopsicker’s 40-yard scamper with 1:34 remaining gave Cazenovia’s top-seeded Lakers a 21-8 victory over a feisty Oneida team that had reached the finals by knocking off the second and third seeds in Class B.

“With their spread (offense) and that good of a quarterback and that line, they’re a tough team to beat,” Oneida senior quarterback and defensive back Matt Mosack said. “You got to worry about so many different threats. They just made plays when they had to. That’s why they’re on top. That’s football.”

Hopsicker, the easy choice as Cazenovia’s Most Outstanding Player, ran for 147 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries and completed 12 of 16 passes for   women handbags another 93 yards. Tailback Johnny Greacen added 77 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries for the Lakers, now 10-0 and playing Section IV champion Chenango Valley in the Central Region final next Saturday.

Oneida’s season ended at 6-4, but not without a fight.

The Indians erased a 7-0 deficit early in the second quarter when sophomore tailback Matt Barlow bolted 35 yards for a touchdown. Oneida faked the point-after kick, and when holder Mosack’s run to the goal line ended with a fumble, teammate Travis Morrison’s end zone recovery gave the Indians an 8-7 lead with 11:10 left in the second quarter.

Oneida’s Kyle Armstrong later preserved that lead when he intercepted a Hopsicker pass at his own 12-yard line with 5:34 remaining in the first half.

“I can’t fault our guys for their effort,” Oneida coach Bill Carinci said. “We were fighting and fighting and fighting. We kept battling. But that Hopsicker kid, he’s really something.”

So is a multi-dimensional Cazenovia offense that gained 260 of its 353 total yards on the ground.

“You’re trying to cover too many places – that’s what it really comes down to,” Carinci said. “And they’ve got weapons all over the place.”

A 2-yard touchdown run by Jose Wells gave Cazenovia a 14-8 lead midway through a third quarter dominated by the Lakers, who later drove from their own 35 to the Oneida 1 before settling for a failed 19-yard field goal try.

Oneida had another scoring chance in the fourth quarter, the Indians driving from their own 20 to the Lakers’ 34. Mosack’s 21-yard option run was the biggest play, but Cazenovia forced an errant pitch on third-and-7 that lost 12 yards, and Doyle Judge Led lamp tipped away Mosack’s fourth-down pass with 2:36 left in the game.

“We had some chances, but we just couldn’t get it done when we really needed to,” Carinci said.

Barlow, whose emergence had led Oneida to its two playoff wins, did break one long run, but was limited to 89 yards on 20 carries. Mosack added 54 yards on 13 carries, but was 4 of 13 passing for 53 yards.

“We needed to keep the ball out of Oneida’s hands as much as possible,” Cazenovia coach Tom Neidl said. “We did give up the one big play, but we didn’t give up the killer.”

Best of times

A great range of devices have been invented to keep time. In the dental office, time is monitored, for example, for the length of an appointment, or precise timing with products to ensure treatment success. Timing is also important for patients, who use products for an adequate amount of time in home care. After all, too little time spent on plaque removal  Coated Abrasives  will consequently contribute to more time spent in the dental chair. Patients often remark, "I just don't have the time to brush, floss, or rinse. How long do I need to brush anyway?"

Some timely products make time management easier for patients.

Generally speaking, have you ever noticed when one watches a clock, time appears to pass more slowly? When it comes to checking the time, will wrist watches become obsolete? Nowadays, cell phones display the most accurate time, and many also have timers. The phones are kept close by at all times.

Still, the time spent on caring for the mouth should be a priority. Consumer surveys report that over an average American's lifetime, 38.5 days are spent  women handbags
brushing his or her teeth, with an average person brushing for 45 to 70 seconds on any given day.

With such a short time being spent on plaque removal, professional recommendations on how to be more efficient in the time one spends brushing is significant. Philips Sonicare motivates patients with timers integrated into their power toothbrush line. The Flex Care+ power brush has a feature that promotes brushing at a timed cycle. The "gum care" mode runs for a three minute round, allowing areas to be effectively reached to improve tissue health. Two minutes of the cycle is powered up for general plaque removal. An added minute is used to concentrate Led lamp  on more tender gingival areas or difficult to maintain spots as with periodontal involvement. With Smartimers (recommended two-minute mode) and Quadpacers, patients can be audibly alerted to the recommended length of time to spend brushing each section in their mouth.

Keeping kids brushing is no easy task. Sunstar Americas motivates kids ages four to 11 to manually brush more with its Crayola brush line, which features a LED lighted timer. The timer flashes continuously until the cycle is completed. More effective cleaning occurs when kids brush longer. The base of the brush has a suction cup that can stick to a counter and is also where the timer is triggered. Once pushed, the child watches the blinking brush in hand and brushes for a minute, focusing on the top or bottom teeth only. After the minute, the flashing will stop; then the child pushes the flasher again and resumes brushing for another minute, finishing the other arch. The toothbrush is available in colors of blue, green, yellow, and red, and the handle of the brush flashes the color as well to illuminate the entire brush handle when the timer is activated.

More amusement during brushing is found when a white molar shaped timer is used. The Twooth Timer Company has a simple turn-the-top timer, which ticks and then dings a bell when the two minutes have elapsed. The molar timer is small, taking up little counter space. No batteries are required for the unit. This molar timer can be used for timing brushing, mouth swishing with rinses, and more.

At the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office

At the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office

At the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, the community service officers are a force of 92 full-time employees on a lower pay scale than police officers. The community officers handle non-violent, non-emergency calls and assist with interviewing witnesses and fingerprinting Led lamp citizens. Most other local agencies, including the sheriff's offices in Clay and St. Johns counties, have similar positions for part-time workers who stick to traffic crashes and community functions.

"Over the years, they have helped us to hire less full-time deputies," said Sgt. Chuck Mulligan of the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office. "When we have attrition, we are not replacing, and they have been very beneficial."

Flagler County Sheriff Don Fleming said the 10-year-old program at his department saves $700,000 a year. He has more than 60 volunteers in the Citizens Observer Patrol program, including traffic accident investigators like Hebert. The similar police cars - not equipped or allowed to make an emergency run with flashing blue lights and marked with a COP emblem - do extra patrols in the neighborhoods for visibility. The volunteers conduct vacation and business checks,  women handbags and provide funeral escorts, a largely extinct service for departments strapped for personnel. The overall budget for the program is about $28,000, including the different-colored uniforms, equipment and car insurance costs.

In return for their time, Fleming gives a rank structure, a regular schedule and routine recognition for his mostly retired volunteers.

"We've all been fortunate, and we're looking for some way to pay back," said Maj. Sonia Byrne, a volunteer who has been with the department for six years. "When you retire, you still need to keep going."

Most people are nice and appreciate the quick  ed hardy hats response, Hebert said of his role. But he's caught his share of flak from drivers angry if he writes a citation for careless driving that causes the accident.

"They say, 'You're not a cop, you can't do this,'" Hebert said. "I say, 'Wanna bet?'"

Hall lucky to be living on borrowed time

Hall lucky to be living on borrowed time

When the head coach of a 2-9 football team is still around months later to finish 7-11, he has lapped up a veritable river of gravy.

So, when the official end of his Eskimos tenure comes in days, weeks or months (yes, that's just a guess) Richie Hall will no doubt realize how lucky he was to experience all that he did this year. Through the darkest days of August, those choked with instability, controversy and humiliation, he will have learned much more about himself as a person and coach than he did during that glorious autumn streak of 5-1.

Guided by personal pride, work ethic and  ed hardy hats survival instincts, he gave more than he even thought possible to the job and came out with his dignity intact. As he said Sunday, while all around him players stuffed the 2010 Canadian Football League regular season into garbage bags, he can stand tall and be firm because he feels good about this team.

That's fine, but there has to be change and it must be significant. The Eskimos haven't been to a Grey Cup for five years and the last time the franchise endured Led lamp a similar dry spell they burned through four head coaches; the late Ron Lancaster, Kay Stephenson, Don Matthews and Tom Higgins. So far, this stretch of incompetence and futility has only cost former coach and general manager Danny Maciocia a job he never should have been handed.

Hall's team finished third in 2009 and lost its only playoff game. They were fourth this time around and his 16-20 record slaps a target on his forehead. On Sunday, he chose not to engage on the topic of his job security or lack thereof.

"You know something, I haven't really thought about  women handbags that very much. Maybe over the next couple weeks. During the course of the season, you want to go as long as you can, but when it's over you're just glad it's over because it's such a grinding time.

"Right now it's a heavy, hard time for us. I just want to get away from football. Just kind of relax and give myself a couple days. For me, because of our struggles this year, I really hadn't had much of a break. I've been going for a while. I'm physically and mentally tired."

I have little doubt that general manager Eric Tillman will replace Hall in due course. A GM hires his own head coach, that's how it works in pro sports. A new head coach will usually find his own assistants, so the prospects for major turnover are high.

Continental guilty in Concorde crash

Continental guilty in Concorde crash

A French court convicted Continental Airlines and one of its mechanics in Texas of manslaughter on Monday for setting off a chain of events that sent a supersonic Concorde crashing into a hotel outside Paris a decade ago, killing 113 people and marking the beginning of the sleek jet's demise.

Both mechanic John Taylor and the airline said they would appeal the long-awaited verdict, which followed 10 years of investigations.

Taylor said the case has "destroyed my life," and his lawyer complained that the little guy was forced to shoulder the blame in a case that involved big names in world aviation.

As the court in the Paris suburb of Pontoise found 42-year-old Taylor and Continental guilty of manslaughter, it ordered a 15-month suspended sentence for the mechanic and about euro2 million ($2.7 million) in damages and fines for him and the company.

Continental's lawyer, Olivier Metzner, accused the French court of issuing a "patriotic" verdict that punished an American company but acquitted French officials accused of ignoring design flaws in the Concorde, a jet that could fly at twice the speed of sound and was the pride of European aviation.

The court confirmed investigators' long-standing belief that Taylor fitted a faulty metal strip on a Continental DC-10 weeks before the July 25, 2000 crash - a strip that eventually tumbled onto the runway at Charles de Gaulle and punctured an Air France Concorde's tire, sending bits of rubber hurtling into the fuel tanks and starting a fire.

The plane then slammed into a nearby hotel, killing all 109 people aboard and four others on the ground. Most of the victims were Germans heading to a cruise in the Caribbean.

The crash marked the beginning of the end for the Concorde, which was a commercial dud despite its glamour, and which was retired in 2003 by its only two carriers, Air France and British Airways.

Never give shoes as Christmas gifts

Never give shoes as Christmas gifts

Shoe superstitions associated with Christmas: The weird things we (or rather I) stumble upon while browsing, surfing the net, or just simply dilly-dallying.

I’ve never been too big a fan of Christmas. I distinctly remember the intro of one of my articles last year which read: “Christmas. Too commercial, not enough heart.” Well, hop for the jordan 6 rings iD Men's Shoe at the official Nike Store. I stand by my statement… but I must admit to at least one “ritual” which I do enjoy immensely during this period of all things happy and fuzzy, red and shiny, is the shopping. I love buying gifts – roaming the streets, inspecting the stores for that something here, there or anywhere which will scream out the name of one of my loved ones. Yes, it’s a tedious task, but it gives me immense pleasure to see the look on the face of the person concerned when they unwrap the gift and find something unexpected yet hopefully desired or even better… coveted.

Which is perhaps the reason why I stopped to notice when I saw this strange statement staring out at me: “Never give shoes as Christmas gifts.buy cheap and popular ed hardy shoes right now and get free shipping! top quality and low price.” Why I ask?

But there is not one reason, but six of them. Apparently:

* Giving a new pair of shoes as Christmas gifts would make your friends walk away from you;
* Wearing new shoes on Christmas day brings bad luck.
* In Greece, burning old shoes during the Christmas season is said to prevent misfortunes in the coming year.
* According to English customs,The actress has a huge collection of Christian Louboutin heels. however, “If you do not give a new pair of shoes to a poor person at least once in your lifetime, you will go barefoot in the next world”, so English people often gift shoes as Christmas presents to the poor.It works best with basics such as wholesale jeans or on the less visible parts of more complex pieces.
* Unmarried girls may throw a shoe over their shoulders and towards the door. If the shoe lands with its toe pointing towards the door the girl will marry within a year. This Foamposite Manolo blahnik features a Black Metallic mudguard that gives the sneaker a very interesting look.

Heard that girls? Well, I guess that applies to me too, not that I’m taking note however. I’m sceptical when it comes to superstitions. I mean we’re dealing with shoes here – SHOES – I’m no Carrie Bradshaw and neither do I spend half my monthly earnings on clothes and accessories but I do love my strappy sandals, suede boots or soft leather shoes which fit like a glove – the kind that make you stand tall and proud; the kind that enhance an outfit; the kind that make you feel a cut (or a heel) above the rest...

So, to heck with superstitions... as long as the size is right, and the shoe suits the individual’s sense of style, it shouldn’t matter.

A girl never has enough pairs of shoes after all. As for the guys... they’re catching up.

Hindustan Copper holds back FPO

Hindustan Copper holds back FPO

The proposed follow-on offer of Hindustan Copper Ltd will not hit the market in December. A source in the Union Ministry of Mines told Business Line that the State-owned company's FPO, consisting of 10 per cent divestment and another 10 per cent of fresh issue of equity, is likely to happen after January 15, 2011.

The postponement was a decision of the Government so as to provide a gap after two overlapping divestments and share issues of MOIL Ltd and Carbon Steel Pipe Shipping Corporation of India ending on December 3.

The merchant bankers to the HCL issue also suggested to the Government that maximum foreign institutional investors' (FII) participation can be achieved only after the end of forthcoming year-end account closure and holiday season spreading into the first fortnight of January.

The responses to the overseas road shows might not Led lamp be effective if they occurred before mid-January, investment banking sources said. The company has planned road shows in the US, UK, Singapore, Hong Kong and Australia. It has already held pre-event investor meets in London, Sydney, Singapore and Hong Kong. However, the US was not a part of the pre-FPO presentations.

This time a separate team, headed by the Chairman and Managing Director of HCL, will travel to London, New York, Boston, Denver and San Francisco. Another team will simultaneously visit eastern investor hubs to market the issue.

Anchor investors from among overseas investors might be roped in — for the first time for a public enterprise — just before formal issue opening.

The exact HCL issue timing would be finally indicated by the Department of Disinvestment some time in January, keeping in view a schedule for a few  women handbags other public sector issues including the proposed FPO of Indian Oil Corporation before the fiscal end in March. Though the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved the HCL issue in June, much before those of SCI and MOIL, it has fallen behind in wrapping up the FPO.

Considering the other procedural steps, such as filing of the final prospectus, arriving at a price band and road shows in domestic and overseas markets, the issue may actually open in February, said a highly-placed Government official.

Kendra Wilkinson is finally showing off her  bikini body after losing over three-and-a-half stone since giving birth in December 2009.

"My body is back, and I want to show it off", the Daily Mail quoted the former Playboy pin-up as saying during her latest photo shoot.

For one shot, she slipped back into a skimpy pink ed hardy wholesale string bikini and peep toe heels as she carried her 11-month-old son Hank Jnr.

In another shot, the reality TV star posed in a red two-piece with black heels outside her family mansion.

And she told US Magazine during the shoot that she and her American Football star husband Hank Baskett are already talking about having another baby.

Despite admitting that "pregnancy is not for me", Kendra says she loves being a mum and "would go through it all again."

But even after shrinking back to her pre-pregnancy weight, the star claimed she's still not confident enough to hit the beach because she wants to lose some "loose skin" from her stomach first.

Kendra's motivation to lose the weight has women handbags been her husband.

"It's all because of Hank. He's the one I am doing it for. It's not even for me being on the cover of magazines or on a TV show. I want my body back for Hank!" she told E! News .

ScaleMP shared memory clusters tuned for Xeon 7500s

ScaleMP shared memory clusters tuned for Xeon 7500s

Given that ScaleMP sells systems software that allows companies to build virtual SMPs out of lower-cost two-socket servers, the company was not all that concerned about the initial performance of vSMP Foundation 3.0 on the boxes. But then, after the first Xeon 7500 machines hit the street in June, right after ScaleMP started to ship its significantly Chanel ceramic watch extended software, 20 per cent of licenses sold by ScaleMP for its code were going on to Xeon 7500 boxes. Some initial customers were taking four eight-socket Xeon 7500 machines and making virtual 32-socket machines out of them.

"The customer is always right," says Fultheim with a laugh, adding that some customers want to manage fewer nodes even though four-socket and eight-socket x64 servers are much more expensive than two-socket x64 machines. "And some of the assumptions that we made about clock speeds, cache sizes, and core counts needed to be retuned for the Xeon 7500s."

In general, the Xeons and Opterons used in two-socket servers have had lower core counts and higher clock speeds than the Xeons and Opterons Led strip light used in fatter boxes. This generalization is getting a bit muddled with the way AMD split the Opteron 4100 and 6100 processors this year, with both being used in two-socket machines and the Opteron 6100s being also used in four-socket boxes.

According to benchmark tests performed by ScaleMP comparing vSMP Foundation 3.0 to 3.5, the bandwidth coming out of the virtual machine monitor is 74 per cent higher on two-socket boxes, but is as much as five times greater on four-socket machines. And latencies on message passing between the nodes are reduced by almost a factor of four on four-socket boxes and by 63 per cent on two-socket machines. The comparisons were made on two server nodes clustered using eight-core, four-socket machines and eight nodes of two-socket boxes with four cores each.

This is not the only performance improvement that comes with vSMP Foundation 3.5. Fultheim says that while the company was down in the guts of its VMM, monkeying around with things, it created a virtual MPI offload engine and snapped it into the VMM and its related InfiniBand drivers. A lot of ScaleMP's customers in the HPC racket use vSMP so they can manage their clusters are fat nodes, but then layer the Message Passing Interface protocol on top of it so their parallel applications can run on these virtual SMPs and also span multiple vSMPs if need be.

ScaleMP has not released performance tests on this MPI offload feature yet, and Fultheim says that this is because the ratio of compute versus communication in HPC applications varies widely and, to put it bluntly, the software is new enough that ScaleMP does not want to be pinned down yet on making performance claims.

That said, Fultheim says that even with InfiniBand being slower than Silicon Graphics' NUMAlink 5 interconnect used in its Altix UV 1000 shared memory systems, vSMP Foundation can give it a run for the HPC money because the VMM at the heart of the women handbags ScaleMP product is basically a bit of software that watches memory usage patterns on many server nodes very carefully. MPI is just passing data from node to node, so a clever VMM can do a bunch of clever things to start processing data in the background while the MPI stack is working, speeding it up. "The trick is how to do it transparently to the applications," Fultheim says.

Detroit Has Many Issues to Address

Detroit Has Many Issues to Address

After the Detroit Tigers slipped quietly beneath the waves in the second half of the 2010 season, never to be heard from again in the AL Central race, team management began trying to figure out how to refloat the boat for 2011.

"We've gone over our players and studied players on other teams to see what we can do to get better next year," Tiger Manager Jim Leyland said from replica uhren Detroit after the latest round of organizational meetings in October.

The Tigers' season was a tale of two halves. At the All-Star break, Detroit was 48-38 and a half game behind the first-place Chicago White Sox. At year's end, the Tigers were 81-81 and 13 games behind the division winning Minnesota Twins.

There were a number of reasons for that.
Injuries to Magglio Ordonez and Carlos Guillen and the second-half collapse of rookie Brennan Boesch left Miguel Cabrera exposed in the middle of the women handbags order, reducing run production. The bullpen fell apart, and there was little if any offense from two positions, catcher and shortstop.

The Tigers have decided they can fix some of that internally. They will give young Alex Avila, who projects well as a hitter, a shot at catcher after he sat behind Gerald Laird most of this year. They also have their fingers crossed that Boesch can return to at least a reasonable facsimile of his first-half self.

In addition, General Manager Dave Dombrowski has promised that the Tigers, who are slicing about $60 million in payroll from the 2010 roster, are Led lamp going to be aggressive in the free-agent market.

Living with Technology

Living with Technology

Before I hear people saying I'm trying to turn their families into couch potatoes, let me say now that I much prefer outdoor moving around games to ones played in front of a screen. But as winter comes upon us, some days it not only better, but safer to stay indoors.

What has been very good is the creation of video games that actually engage people more than just their fingers and thumbs on the controllers.

Nintendo's Wii system introduced the first commercially successful gaming system that got people out of their chairs and involved with the games. While its ed hardy hats video wasn't up to the high definition that many of us now take for granted, the games are very successful in a broad range of ages and interests.

For example, the Wii system has exercise games for all age levels and has sports games crossing a similar broad spectrum of people.

This year, Sony released the "Move" add-on for its PlayStation 3 device. The Move controllers are similar to the Wii in that they're wireless, but they have an optical aspect and include a small camera that watches you move and play. To identify the different Led lamp controllers, the Move controllers have a colored light on top the size of a ping pong ball that turns a color when connected to the PlayStation.

The Move system is still quite new and has very few games, but expect quite a few just in time for the holiday season.

The latest entrant into the move-around-the-room gaming space is Microsoft's Kinect for Xbox 360. Instead of having controllers that you hold, the Kinect actually watches you move with a number of lenses that track your motion and even recognize your face.

Each one of these systems has created a new way to play.

Right now, these systems tend to focus on sports and activities that require significant motor skills. And, on a cold, wintry day, these can be great fun.

I fully expect that as we see these technologies in women handbags consumer electronics, we'll see many other uses, say to teach a skill such as knitting, SCUBA diving, driver training and more.

I even expect at one point, these could be used to help you assemble that Ikea bookshelf that you just bought or help would-be-Santas assemble the toys on Christmas Eve.

If the weather outside is yucky, one of these game machines can make the day a bit brighter. But if the weather is good, nothing beats a wonderful day of running around outside.

Local businesses hopeful for the holidays

Local businesses hopeful for the holidays

Cold air has started to drift into Bloomington, and it’s a small reminder the holiday season is quickly approaching.

But it’s no surprise for local businesses that have  high risk merchant account been preparing for months, in hopes of attracting more consumers than previous years.

Georgena Kincaid, director of operations for Gold Casters Fine Jewelry in Bloomington, said the jewelry store starts ordering more pieces for the holidays in June so the inventory arrives in September and October.

“If you don’t start early, you’ll get left behind,” she said. “The most important thing we do is all our buying for the store.”

She said the store’s sales usually see an increase in  women handbags November and December, specifically with bracelets, earrings, pendants and occasionally watches.

“Jewelry is the most popular thing you can buy, especially for women,” Kincaid said.
Despite an expected increase in customers, Kincaid said they don’t hire extra help because they don’t necessarily need it.

“In our environment temporary employees don’t really work,” she said. “We keep a very strong staff all year long.”

Kincaid said the store has a strong customer base, but the employees still try to reach out to more people during the holidays.

One of the promotions is the store’s annual Christmas open house, a week after Thanksgiving. Kincaid said this is a popular event, especially for couples that look at items together and then later come back and buy the jewelry alone.

Pictura Gallery also participates in a promotional holiday event in downtown
Bloomington.

Martha Moore, owner of the gallery, said for the annual event,  10 galleries downtown stay open late and feature holiday specials, decorations, food and music.

“That’s sort of a big kick off for December for the art galleries,” Moore said. “That’s something that is a very coordinated effort between the galleries to bring people in for the holidays.”

Moore said the gallery starts planning for the holidays in the spring so they can schedule a good exhibition to display in November and December.

“Our biggest thing is to make sure we have really high quality work up during the holiday season,” she said. “Because it’s one of the biggest times of the year, we spend a lot of time getting ready for those shows.”

In addition to lining up good exhibits for the year, the gallery Led lamp also sells the artwork shown and tries to promote this especially during the gift-buying time.
“We increase our inventory of books and cards, and we always have some type of sale,” Moore said.
